Gay Gallery Hop

The

The Short North Business Association (SNBA), in conjunction with Stonewall Union, will be sponsoring the third annual Pride Weekend Gallery Hop in the Short North. Dubbed "Saturday Night Out," the event promises to be great for the thousands of gay, bi and lesbian visitors expected to be in Columbus for the annual Stonewall Pride March and Gayfest.

The Short North is a natural destination for Pride Weekend visitors. In recent years the residential areas surrounding the Short North business district have become home to a large percentage of Columbus' gay community. In response to this, dozens of new gay and lesbian owned restaurants, bars and retail shops have opened their doors to provide a safe, gay-friendly neighborhood shopping and entertainment experience. In the last six months alone, four nightclubs catering to gay clientele have opened. The SNBA is working actively with area businesses to coordinate late shopping hours, in-store promotions and other activities to add to the excitement. The Pride March and Gayfest draw in excess of 10,000 participants and spectators annually from all over Ohio and the surrounding states. It is one of the largest gay pride events in the Midwest, second only to Chicago.

Information on the June 29th Saturday Night Out in the Short North may be obtained by calling Brian of Metro Video at 614-291-7962.

N Rouge game held at Berliner Park between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. They will then do a benefit show at the Garage at 9:00 p.m. to raise money for the Ohio AIDS Coalition.

The

The Rubi Girls have been performing for ten years and have been doing benefits for the past two. They have raised thousands of dollars lending a helping hand to the gay community. The show is described as not your typical drag show. The performers don't imitate, they innovate. They spend more time trying to entertain the audience and make them laugh than they do on their looks, which adds to the hilarity of the show. The Rubi Girls start their 1996-97 tour of Ohio this fall and now is a great time to find out what they are really all about.
